Smiling and happier than ever, Mariah Carey (41) caresses her belly of which she’s so proud! Her happy and relaxed nature combines now with her self-esteem and with that one of a kind feeling of someone who is about to give life to a child. Because recently Mariah shows an aura that is specific to pregnant women, spreading warmth and inner peace.

She couldn’t believe it, when she first took the pregnancy test, that what happens to her is real, so, under her husband’s enthusiastic eyes, Nick Cannon (29), she continued until her bathroom was filled with positive pregnancy tests. But this wasn’t enough to convince Mimi, how her close friends call her, that she was really pregnant. She waited for the blood tests and only after that she could look herself in the mirror and as a future mother. All this because, at one point in her life, Mariah stopped believing that she’ll be ever able to hold her child in her arms. It was, practically, a miracle.

For years she have been neglecting the maternity issue, because of her lack of time, she apologizes, and because of a sort of sentimental comfort, we say. Until recently, she didn’t even seem to worry of not being able to have children. Not in a visible mode. Initially, her marriage with Sony’s ex-boss, Tommy Mottola, discouraged any of her maternal thoughts.

And the career, which demanded her to be always in competition with herself, but with the younger talents as well, was a reason why family was never, officially, a priority to her. And probably not even the other partners that she had after the Mottola divorce, like Derek Jeter and Luis Miguel, haven’t shown signs of that they’d want a child with her.

However, the much younger Nick Cannon, as soon as he met her, hasn’t ever hidden his intentions of becoming a father as soon as possible, especially because he comes from a big family. And, at first sight, not only that Mariah appeared available, but also with a body capable of giving birth to healthy babies.

Everything until the contrary evidence, because the pregnancy tests kept showing negative. Only after this, Mimi realized that her time was running short and that it was time to take some measures.

Sources from her entourage have said that, in the past 2 years, the singer kept on trying to become pregnant, fact confirmed by paparazzi’s pictures that have surprised her entering in various occasions in a fertility medical center in California. And as soon as Mimi begun to visit the clinic more often (in spring) and seemed happier every time after leaving it, the American tabloids rushed to affirm that Mariah’s family will soon expand.

It could’ve been a press bomb if Mariah would want to share the secret with her fans. But, precautious, she only told her relatives and her closest friends. After all, she hasn’t forgotten about the harsh moments she had to go through after the miscarriage, only a few months after her rushed marriage with Nick, in April 2008, without the public to know about her trauma at that point. It was unbearable! The pregnancy stopped evolving after her 2nd trimester, and the doctors found no other escape apart from operation.

After two surgeries of which not even her family knew, weeks of nightmare have followed for Mariah, which was crying daily and was searching with her hands for something that wasn’t in her womb anymore. And it was getting even harder as the Christmas holidays were approaching, and Mariah and Nick were surrounded by couples with kids, which were waiting impatiently for Christmas. For them, those were some sad holidays.

So now, even though many thought she was pregnant, she eagerly waited for the doctors to give her the good news that she’ll go through this new try well. Meanwhile, the news started to spread in the virtual space, when their close friends started to leak details on Twitter: “Both of them are very happy, but they want to keep the secret as much as possible.”

“The diva of divas”, as her husband calls her, listened carefully to the doctor’s advices, and now, after a long waiting and countless prayers, she can truly say that in the spring she’ll have her first child. In her calm home from New York, in a room that Nick always fills with flowers and butterfly-shaped balloons, Mariah talks and sings to the baby in her belly, and every moment spent like this is a blessing.

Looking behind, she knows that it was worth every dose of progesterone and every daily acupuncture session. And the dizziness and nausea are easier to bear when she’s thinking how her child will look and what name will have! She also doesn’t mind the fact that most of her clothes fit her no more and that all the tabloids are making fun of her new curves.

It’s true that she’s feeling weak now and that she stays more indoors, dressed in a loose pajama, and that her appetite doesn’t help her keep her weight under control. She often desires pizza with cooked peppers and cheeseburgers with fries, and Nick spoils her with every type of goodies.

The only obstacle that she must pass is the actual birth, to which she’s nervously thinking. Initially, Mariah wanted to give birth in water, especially that she’s feeling relaxed in that environment. However, after watching several movies involving this technique, she changed her mind. Could she think of giving birth through a Cesarean section? Everything’s possible. Anyhow, she has an aversion towards hospitals and wants total privacy. So we wouldn’t be surprised if that room filled with flowers and balloons would transform, for a day, into a birthing room.

Unprecedented Pain
Even though they appeared as happy and joyful during their 2008 Christmas holiday in Aspen, with their families and friends, nobody knew that Mariah and Nick were only mimicking the happiness. And this because, a very short while before, the singer suffered a miscarriage after only 6 weeks of pregnancy. Being precautious, she didn’t want to announce her family that she was pregnant, until the doctors would confirm that the child had a chance to survive. After this, she hasn’t told anybody about the loss, being superstitious, but also because she couldn’t talk about it for a long time. The only one that was standing beside her was her husband, Nick. He supported her not to fall into depression.

The long way to motherhood
After a tough year, in which she tried getting pregnant through natural ways, and after the miscarriage suffered at the end of 2008, Mariah asked for help to the specialists from Southern California Reproductive Center, the fertility and family planning clinic from Beverly Hills.

The doctors from here prescribed the singer a treatment that involved injections with progesterone, which raises fertility, treatment that Mariah followed for 2 years. She also had acupuncture sessions, a method that is said to balance the hormones. And it looks that the procedure gave results.

But even when she knew that she was finally pregnant, Mariah kept her fans waiting for months, by avoiding confirming the rumors. Even though it was justified, her fear was seen as a “celebrity act”. After some time, Mimi shared the true reasons why she was so reserved, also offering details of her life as a future mother.

First Clues – August 2010. The fans have noticed that Mariah started to gain weight, but because the diva hasn’t confirmed the pregnancy yet, they thought that it was because of the fertility treatments.

Facts – September 2010. Mariah’s bigger curves have spread even more the rumors of an eventual pregnancy.

Confirmation – October 2010. With an obvious bump, Mariah couldn’t keep the secret any longer, so she admitted, finally, to her fans that she’ll become a mother.
